Electric Rates Announced In February 2024: A Comprehensive Guide

DERS (Direct Energy Regulated Services) announced the electricity rates for February 2024, in ATCO Electric’s service area. These rates, known as the RRO, determine the price per kWh of electricity consumed by regulated customers.

These monthly rates are adjusted by DERS to reflect energy procurement costs that are incurred by the company on behalf of its customers. The AUC verifies and approves the methodology used by DERS for determining RRO rates.

The February energy rate shows a 7% decrease compared to the previous month. For an average residential consumer using 600 kWh per month, this means a $17.74 decrease in total bill amount, or a 4% decrease.

The rates differ according to the different categories of customers, each with its unique market prices for electricity and recovery fees. For example, at the residential rate, the market price is 15.688 CPG per kWh and the recovery charge is 2.249 CPG per kWh, which adds up to 17.937 CPG per kWh.

The table below shows the rates for commercial customers, industrial customers, farm customers, irrigation customers, oil and gas customers, and lighting customers. In addition, there are also specific farm categories within the scope of REA , each with its market price for electricity and recovery charge.

These are Beaver REA, Braes REA, Claymore REA, Devonia REA, Heart River REA, Kneehill REA, Mackenzie REA, Myrnam REA, and Zawale REA with their electricity consumption rates.
